Mumbai, India – January 27, 2008
Evy & I went for a walk today - we got lost. As the area got progressively more slum-like & the stares progressively more rude (& lewd), we decided to turn back. It’s a first for me, feeling like it really would be safer to turn around than keep going. It wasn’t even that dangerous, but I’m used to walking on my own around town at all times, it’s odd to feel like that’s really not a good idea. In the end the only comment we got (besides the typical ‘Hey Madam’ s & ‘Hello, how are you?’s that punctuate every day) was from a lady who as she was walking by told us we were beautiful. Weird. Evy & I still think the best was the guy the other day who called out ‘Heyyy, Babyyyyy’ as though it were some kind of lure though.
