Singapore - January 16th, 2008
I short-circuited the entire dormitory section of our hostel today. Twice. I needed to charge my computer battery but was worried about power surges. With this in mind, I attached Evy’s surge protector to my newly acquired Singapore adaptor. I plugged this lovely dual system in - not even attempting it with the computer power cord - and it promptly caused the entire building’s power supply to short circuit.
I went down to the front desk & they came up to fix it. Since it seemed a little crazy that the simple presence of a power surge protector would cause an entire building to short-circuit I asked whether they thought it had indeed been me or whether it was some fluke coincidence. ”I don’t know,” said our new friend Spencer, runner of ‘The Hive’ hostel, “try plugging it in again & if the lights go out, it’s you”. So I did, and they did. It was then that Spencer & I mutually decided that it would be better to chance the potential of power surges & plug the computer directly into my Singapore plug adaptor, leaving the lights & power on for everyone else.
